Micro-needling is one of the many skin-rejuvenation treatment options VITAHL Medical Aesthetics Chicago offers. If you’re looking to improve the texture and firmness of your skin or reduce the appearance of scarring and stretch marks this may be the treatment for you.
What is Micro-needling?
Micro-needling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses a pen containing fine needles to puncture the skin and create controlled micro-injuries. These punctures trigger the body to produce collagen and elastin which helps improve the texture and overall health of the skin. Micro-needling does not destroy the punctured tissue and the healthy skin surrounding the punctures allows for a minimal healing process.
Micro-needling can be used to reduce pore size, reduce the appearance of stretch marks, soften wrinkles, and reduce the appearance of scars. This treatment can also be used to increase the effectiveness of topical skin products, as it creates micro-channels in the superficial layers of the skin allowing for better absorption.

What areas can be treated by Micro-needling?
This treatment can be used on skin anywhere on the body, the most common treatment areas include:
- Back of hands
Is Micro-needling painful?
Micro-needling feels more like sandpaper against skin than needles. Some scar treatments may require longer needles which can produce a more intense sensation. A topical anesthetic can be applied prior to treatment to minimize any discomfort during the procedure.
What can I expect after a treatment session?
Depending on the treated area and the depth of the skin defect being treated, patients may experience some redness or pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising at the puncture sites. Pinpoint bleeding should subside almost immediately. After a treatment session the treated area may look sunburned, this can last up to several days following treatment.
Am I a candidate?
Micro-needling is safe for all skin types and skin tones. There is little risk of pigmentation or hyperpigmentation following treatment. We do not recommend micro-needling for anyone who has open wounds or abrasions on the skin, has used Accutane within three to six months of the procedure, is pregnant or breastfeeding, or has had radiation treatments on the skin within a year prior to treatment.
Our experts at VITAHL Chicago will determine if micro-needling is the right option for you during your complimentary consultation.
