Do you feel like you sweat more than most people? Do your hands or feet sweat excessively? You may have a condition called hyperhidrosis, where your nervous system causes your body to involuntarily overproduce sweat. At VITAHL Chicago, we commonly use Botox to help our patients address excessive sweating. This minimally-invasive treatment allows our patients to experience an almost immediate reduction in sweating with little to no downtime.

What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which the sympathetic nervous system causes an overactive sweat response. This involuntary condition can be socially isolating because patients who suffer from it may feel embarrassed or insecure about their excessive sweating. There are two different forms of hyperhidrosis: primary hyperhidrosis and secondary hyperhidrosis. The exact cause of primary hyperhidrosis is unknown, but it seems to be an inherited trait that is linked to genetics. Secondary hyperhidrosis occurs as a result of an underlying medical condition or medication. Alcoholism can also contribute to excessive sweating.
How can Botox be used to reduce excessive sweating?
Botox is a common treatment option for hyperhidrosis. The botulinum toxin found in Botox binds to the nerve endings near the injection site and temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves and prevents them from triggering a response from the sweat glands. Many patients experience a noticeable reduction in sweat within one week of their injection session.
How long will my results last?
Botox injections typically help reduce excessive sweating for six to nine months. In order to maintain your results, you will need routine follow-up injection sessions. Individual results may vary.
Am I a candidate?
Men and women who are looking to reduce excessive sweating in their hands and feet and other areas are potential candidates for our Botox for sweat treatments.
